Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Sydney Festival is taking full advantage of the new ICC building in Darling Harbour by staging two heavyweight acts in the marvellous 9,000 theatre. First up will be PJ Harvey on Jan 22nd with a rave review rated show. Then two gigs by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, who will be performing songs from their new album Skeleton Tree.
St George Openair Concert
An exciting and thrilling evening at the St George Openair cinema. From your seats watch the screen rise up over the water, with the Opera House and Bridge as the backdrop. This year’s program features documentary Stories of Australian Film, extreme sports action of the Telluride Mountainfilm festival and numerous premieres.
Opera In The Domain
Sydney loves alfresco full stop, and events are no different. But it is hard to top Opera in the Domain for an evening under the stars. This is Opera Australia’s all-killer-no-filler annual free picnic, featuring favourite overtures and arias performed by top soloists accompanied by the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. This year’s vocalists are Elvira Fatykhova, Sian Pendry, Ho-Yoon Chung and Luke Gabbedy.
Parkes Elvis Festival
An amazing event where over 22,000 are expected to come together to shake, rattle and roll for 5 days at the annual Parkes Elvis Festival. 2017 will celebrate the festival’s fifteenth birthday and to celebrate they are theming the event as “Viva Las Vegas”.
The festival will feature more than 120 events, including an Elvis Gospel Service, free entertainment in Cooke Park and the Miss Priscilla Dinner.
The Sydney Festival
The daddy of them all, this annual cultural celebration is the big one as far as Sydney’s “must- do” list is concerned. And the festival’s contemporary programming always manages to come up with big surprises. Events take place across Sydney and Parramatta, attracting over half a million people each year.
So Frenchy So Chic
So Frenchy is a family-friendly festival and kids under 12 can attend free. There are a myriad of activities to entertain young and old from face painting, to lawn games.
Basically So Frenchy is a wildly popular French-style picnic in the park. This year’s line-up on stage includes Deluxe, hip-hop and soul. The Liminanas 1960’s French music vibe, Bertrand Belin, Nouvelle Vague performing Joy Division and Clash hits.
Most of the day is spent drinking fine wine and Champagne whilst relaxing on the grass. Picnic hampers from Simmone Logue will include quiche, goose-egg meringues, cheese platters and charcuterie.
Also there are many stallholders selling French delicacies such as: oysters, foie gras, raclette, crepes and macaroons. Plus the ever popular Laurent Perrier bar the will be open for the odd glass of bubbly.
