In this blog we turn our attention to Sydney’s beaches and give advice where are the very best ones and some that are off the beaten track but well worth a visit. When it comes to the best beaches in Sydney it is really quite difficult to know where to begin as there are over a hundred beaches around Sydney harbour and the coast both north and south of the city.
Manly Beach
Manly beach can be accessed by ferry from Circular Quay and a sign greets visitors on arrival, Five miles from the city, a million miles from care. This slogan sorts of defines the laid back atmosphere on Manly.
Manly beach is long and excellent for most water sports, it also has a busy mall and a great promenade to stroll down and perhaps have a bite to eat or a welcome refreshing drink at one of the many bars and cafes that are dotted around the prom.
Tamarama Beach
Tamatama Beach is located just south of Bondi and the waters can be a tad challenging especially for swimming. The beach is nicknamed Glamarama by the locals referring to the models who often frequent it.
Tamarama Beach is stunning, and although a little difficult to get to it is well worth it. The beach is small and has a very intimate feel to it. It is however one of Sydney’s most dangerous beaches as the are two rips that come from opposite ends of the bay.
Bondi Beach
The granddaddy of them all, Bondi is a must for anyone visiting Sydney for the first time. The famous beach is a kilometer in length and a hundred meters wide so there is plenty of space for everybody.
Most people head down to Bondi for the craic and to meet up with the surfing community. There are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants around Bondi that take on the surfing party when the sun goes down. Noisy, crowded and loud, but a great place to party and have fun.
Bronte Beach
At the other end of the scale from Bondi Beach if the family-friendly Bronte Beach, which is surrounded by nearby parkland that is ideal for family barbecues and gatherings. Bronte Beach also has its own sea pool that offers protected swimming.
Nielsen Park Beach
For those people who prefer a little more solitude then Nielsen Park Beach is ideal. Bordering a national park it is rather a hidden gem and a bit of a locals secret. Access can be gained by taking a stroll through the harbour foreshore and the national park.
One great thing about Nielsen Park Beach is the views that it offers back across the bay of the city center. There is an enclosed swimming area with a net protecting it which is ideal for snorkeling.
