If you live in Sydney or you are just about to visit this wonderful city then perhaps you would like to explore the nearby area and head out of the city for a quick break.

Palm Beach

The Northern Beaches has always been a popular sport for people wanting a little R&R away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. And at its apex is the wonderful Palm Beach which is only an hour from Sydney’s CBD.

Perhaps you can stop off on the way for refreshments at the Boathouse which is a charming wooden cottage situated right on the waters edge.

The beach is perfect, and is perfect for family swimming, and there are plenty of leisurely walks in and around its vicinity.

Royal National Park

The Royal National Park is a fifteen hectare wonderland of Australian nature. There is thick bush, swimming spots, cliff walks and of course many flora and fauna to keep track of.

The park also has some great examples of the art and history of the Dharawal people who once ruled over the area. There are engravings on rocks and in caves that are over one thousand years old.

The Royal National Park is a perfect place to visit during May to November when it is whale watching season. From the cliff-tops the sight of many humpback whales heading down the coast is a marvelous sight to see.

Blue Mountains

If you head out of Sydney in a Westerly direction, about two hours later you will encounter the Blue Mountains. Leading up to the mountains are terrific forest walks that will take you through ancient trees and eventually you will come to Echo Point.

From Echo Point you can clearly see the famous Three Sisters rock formations that are simply stunning.

If you would like some real pampering after a long day’s exercise then head to the Hydro Majestic Hotel which is resplendent in its Art Deco makeover. High Tea is thoroughly recommended as the hotel is famed for its delicious cakes and sandwiches.

Southern Highlands

A great way to spend the day is among the rural townships of the New South Wales Southern Highlands. The townships are set in rolling hills and forests and is a picture perfect landscape.

You can visit the Bradman Centre at Bowral, or go antique shopping at Dirty Janes, or perhaps even enjoy a local meal at the Mill Cafe situated in a huge period building.

These are just some of the great places situated just under two hours drive from Central Sydney. There are many more ideas in our blog pages, so keep abreast of our ever changing and updated information.
